The Head of Junior School PE will have responsibility for the physical education of all pupils (reception to year 6) in the Junior School within a 4-18 Sports department. They will work closely with the Director of Sport to develop a co-ordinated approach towards sports and fitness across the whole school.

Responsibilities:
Strategic School Aims and Objectives

  • Have a clear vision and strategy for the development of sporting excellence in the Junior School (Rec – Y6) and the development of the participation rates for all students.
  • Work with the Director of Sport to ensure the best use of the facilities and equipment for provision of PE, Games and the co-curricular programmes.
  • Provide a challenging, positive, stimulating and secure learning community for students
  • Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety requirements relating to Junior PE are in place and adhered to
  • Promote and sustain positive relationships between the Girls’ and Boys’ schools through close working and collaboration with counterparts in the Boys’ Prep School
  • Assist in the preparation, promotion and implementation of School policies review and develop the policies and documentation in relation to PE and Games, to include schemes of work, health and safety, and handbooks.
  • Contributing willingly and significantly to cocurricular activities after school and at weekends

Pupil and Staff Welfare:

  • Promote excellence and innovation in physical education in the Junior School to ensure pupil experience is of a consistently high standard.
  • Inspire and motivate colleagues through his/her own passion for the subject and participate in the extensive Teaching & Learning programme available
  • Work alongside the Director of sport in managing the department including the development of new staff if required.
  • Support, coach, line manage, appraise and develop staff members in their pastoral duties and care for pupils’

  • Good honours degree in a relevant subject area
  • Outstanding practitioner, with strong knowledge and understanding of physical education, child-centred philosophy and approach
  • Knowledge of current educational thinking, initiatives, issues and matters of pedagogy
  • Organised and effective record-keeping
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Developed leadership qualities, combining humility with a sense of credibility and presence.
